Remembrances

Over the past five years, we went from acquaintances to good friends…Our friendship developed out of golf, but extended far beyond that as time went on…He became a trusted friend, one whom I shared my thoughts and emotions…And each time he picked up the phone, the first words out of his mouth were 'Mr. John' in a rolling, booming voice…On the twelfth tee every time we played at Hudson, every time, Michael would tee his ball up and announce 'I'm going to be one under to the HOUSE. One under to the HOUSE. That's what I'm going to be, one under to the HOUSE.' Later in those rounds, he'd invariably say, when standing over an extremely tough clip, 'Me and Vijay Singh are the only TWO people that has this shot. The ONLY TWO people. Me and Vijay.' I am fortunate enough that Michael touched my life and made it better, and funnier, and richer than it was before…

…Michael James Berkeley's skin is brown like a cinnamon candle. Michael Berkeley was very nice and funny, too. I wish that he were still alive…I will always miss Michael James Berkeley.

It always seemed as though when I got in Mike's presence, his smile, sense of humor, his one-liners would get in between me and the pressures of life, and…my concerns would fade away into the background…One word from Mike had the ability to transform the darkest storm into the brightest day…Mike was an example of living life to its fullest…

Michael was a warm, funny, caring man who loved his family, friends, work - in other words, he loved life. He always made me laugh with his very own brand of humor. Though I initially met and knew him through our jobs - he was the salesman, me as the customer - he became, over a short time, my friend. I miss you, Mike. God Bless you. My memories of you will always make me smile.
